How do the sports performance sessions work?
Sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length and consist of two primary parts.
The first 20-25 minutes of the session consists of a group dynamic warm up and multi-directional speed work. The athletes train as a group during this portion of the workout and develop skills like linear acceleration, max velocity, change of direction, agility, first step quickness, etc. The athletes work on developing these skills then apply them in reactive/competitive drills with their peers.
After the speed/agility portion of the session, the athletes split up and execute their own individualized and customized power, strength, and conditioning programming based on their goals, sport, training age, injury history, etc. for the remainder of the session. During this portion the coaches move around the room working with and coaching each individual through their program.
How long is a sports performance session?
Sports performance sessions are 60 minutes in length.
Is your program sport-specific?
The sports performance program is athlete-centered first and foremost. Every program is customized to optimize the health and performance of each individual athlete and help them reach their specific goals. One component of this is appreciating the sport and position demands of each athlete.
Do you work with my athlete’s sport?
We work with athletes of all sports, ages, and athletic backgrounds! Our sports performance programs consist of athletes who play a wide variety of sports including baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer, hockey, softball, field hockey, swimming, fencing, figure skating, and many more. The way we structure our program allows us to work movement skills that are universal to all sports and then individualize and customize our training programs to meet the goals and needs of each athlete to help them optimize their performance.
Will my son/daughter receive coaching during their workout?
Every athlete receives individual attention and coaching throughout the session to optimize their performance and safety. Our number one priority is to ensure that athletes are executing all movements and training exercises safely and effectively so that they can maximize.
How many athletes are in each group?
Monday through Friday we have three classes per day. The first two classes are capped at eight athletes per group, while the third class is capped at 10 athletes. Saturday morning’s 10 AM session is capped at 10 athletes. We have at least two coaches on the floor at all times to ensure a high coach/athlete ratio and individualized coaching for each athlete.
What days and times does the program run?
We have sports performance classes running Monday-Saturday. Monday-Thursday classes start at 3, 3:30, and 4 pm. Friday they run at 3:30, 4, and 4:30 pm. Saturday is a single class at 10 am.
How do I schedule my athlete for sessions?
Scheduling is done through the Mindbody app. Once the athlete is registered for their training package, they will have access to any of the scheduled sports performance sessions we offer throughout the week. Either the athlete or the parent will log into the app and schedule in advance for their sports performance session. We encourage all athletes to schedule as far in advance as their schedule allows in order to ensure their desired time slot, as we do cap the number of athletes in each session to ensure a high coach to athlete ratio.
What ages are included in the sports performance groups?
We have athletes from 12 years old all the way to Division 1 and professional athletes represented in our sports performance program. Everyone is working at their own level and the training is designed to meet the athlete at their current level. Young athletes who are new to the gym learn the fundamentals and are gradually challenged in a safe and progressive manner over time while older, more experienced athletes are pushed and challenged with more advanced exercises, heavier loads, and more attention to specific details of optimizing their movement skill.
Is everyone in the group doing the same workout?
All programming is customized and individualized to the goals, needs, sport, age, injury history, and movement capabilities of the athlete. Programs are built out on an excel document in 4 week blocks and progressed each month. Athletes track their progress on their program sheet and are always encouraged to provide coaches feedback about things they like, don’t like, and want to focus on so that we can truly customize the program and training experience to each individual athlete.
What happens if my son/daughter can’t make all their sessions in one week?
Packages are structured so that if you sign up for 2x per week training, you have access to 8 sessions per billing cycle. This means that if you miss a session or have to miss a week for travel, you can make those sessions up as long as the sessions are used within the same billing cycle!
What is the next step and how do I get started?
The first step will be to download the Mindbody app and create an account under your son/daughter’s name and whatever email you want attached to their account. From there you will search BOLT Fitness and Performance in Chester, NJ. Next, schedule your son/daughter into their first Sports Performance session of your choosing.
Do you offer any nutrition advice/consultation for my son/daughter?
Yes, while we are not registered dieticians and do not provide diet plans, we will absolutely work with you and your athlete to learn the fundamentals of nutrition as well as help to cultivate nutritional/eating habits to help your athlete reach their goals. We will provide the framework based on principles to learn how to make better decisions when it comes to nutrition, and hold the athlete accountable to ensure that they consistently hit their nutritional targets to help them reach their goals, whether they are to add muscle, lose body fat, improve speed/power, etc. Our primary goal is to give athletes the skill and knowledge to make better educated decisions about food for the rest of their athletic careers and their lives long after they finish playing competitive sports.
What should my athlete wear to their first session?
The athlete should wear comfortable gym clothes and a pair of good training shoes that have heel and arch support, as well as traction. They should also bring a water bottle that can be refilled, as we have filtered water coolers at the facility.
What is covered in the initial consultation?
The initial consultation is a 20-30 minute in person meeting to go over goals, schedules, opportunities for improvement, obstacles the athlete has encountered in trying to reach these goals, and learn more about how we can help YOU. We want to learn as much as possible about each athlete’s individual background and specific goals so that we can help structure the best plan to help that athlete optimize their performance and reach their goals. Additionally, we will detail how the sports performance program runs, how we individualize each athlete’s program, scheduling on the Mindbody app, and give a short tour of the facility.
How many athletes are in each session?
We have three sessions per day Monday through Friday. The first two sessions are capped at eight athletes in each session, while the third session is capped at 10 athletes. We also have a single sports performance session Saturday mornings at 10 am, which is capped at 10 athletes.
